The High School

This is located in a prominent position above the River Danube and historical town centre, in the vicinity of the Franciscan monastery. The school was founded in 1891 by a government decree founding a Public high school in the trading town of Vukovar. It soon became a highly reputable and respectable school, producing generations of young, well educated people, who later developed into experts and intellectuals. On its 100th anniversary in 1991, the building was destroyed in the fierce shelling of Vukovar. The yellow lamp or the lighthouse simply disappeared.
The high school building was reconstructed and reopened its door to those intent on learning on September 11th 2000. Its reconstruction was financed by the City of Zagreb.
