The Chapel of the Lady of the Oak (Priljevo)
The chapel is located in Priljevo, between the course of the old River Vuka and the main approach from the direction of Osijek. It used to be set apart from other buildings, right next to a tall oak after which it was named. The chapel was built in 1892. Legend has it that in 1891 an oak where a painting of Our Lady was hung caught fire from the candles that were lit next to it. The painting of the Lady remained intact, and the people of Vukovar decided to build a chapel there. It was based on the design of the Budapest architect I. Möller, and is one of the best examples of late Historicism in Vukovar. Along with the dominant traits of Neo-Romanticism in the picturesque architecture of the chapel, elements of traditional woodcraft are also evident.
Its reconstruction after the war was financed by the 'Interijer' company of Đakovo.
